New on DVD: ‘Gamer,’ ‘Pandorum,’ ‘Whiteout,’ and the Debut of Flipper Discs

Gamer Gerard Butler stars in this action pic set in the near future, when convicts are controlled by people outside in a real-life, all-guns-blazing video game that plays out to a worldwide audience. Loud, gory and techno-freaky, it’s directed by the guys that brought you the Crank movies. Michael C. Hall makes a good villain as the game's evil creator. Here's an exclusive clip with the directors.

Pandorum Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster are flight crewmembers on a ship traveling through space to colonize a distant planet…but things aren’t what they seem, especially when everyone except them apparently has been devoured by horrific creatures on board. Part The Descent, part Aliens, part the Firefly series and part pretty much every other sci-fi horror movie ever made, it still has a good and unexpected twist at the end.

Whiteout Keep this one on ice. Kate Beckinsale stars as the only U.S. Marshal in Antarctica, whose investigation of the area’s first homicide could cost her her life. Duhn duhn DUHN!….

The Invention of Lying Ricky Gervais might have wowed ‘em at the Golden Globes, but this Liar Liar derivative was nothing to write home to Jolly Olde England about.

Che Biopic of the Cuban revolutionary starring Benicio del Toro.

Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball Tom Berenger and Vinnie Jones star in this prequel to Smokin’ Aces, which if you haven’t seen it, is more worth a look than this straight-to-DVD release.

Have it both ways as Universal debuts its new dual-format, individually packaged discs that include Blu-ray and DVD versions of the Bourne movies: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. Called “flipper discs,” they’re compatible with any DVD or BD player—so you can watch on any TV or computer without buying two versions of the movie. Suggested MSRP is $30 each, but you can snap them up on Amazon for about half that. Extras are way too much to list, but on both are featurettes about author Robert Ludlum, background on the Jason Bourne character, director commentary and lots more.
