New on DVD: ‘Avatar’ Collector’s Ed., ‘The Kids Are All Right,’ ‘The Last Airbender,’ More

Avatar Extended Collector’s Edition This 3-disc set features the original theatrical release, special edition re-release and new extended cut with 16 added minutes including an exclusive alternate opening Earth scene. Short of the 3-D version (coming bundled in Dec., standalone in a few years), this is the definitive set for Avatar fans. Extras include documentaries, behind the scenes featurettes, artwork, and more than 45 minutes of deleted scenes. Delve ever deeper into James Cameron’s filmmaking process, check out production shorts about motion-capture, the original screenplay and script, and a Pandorapedia. According to Cameron , “Everything worth putting into a special edition is in this set.”

The Kids Are All Right Annette Bening and Julianne Moore play a lesbian couple raising two teenagers who track down their freewheeling sperm-donor dad (Mark Ruffalo) and spring that surprise on their two moms over dinner. Funny, heartwarming, all the clichés apply. Look for Bening to earn a nomination come Oscar time. Extras: Director Lisa Cholodenko describes the five-year writing/filming process, making-of docu (DVD/BD)
The Last Airbender M. Night Shyamalan’s live-action version of the animated TV series tells the story of four nations locked in a conflict that can only be ended by the Avatar—a single boy who can manipulate the earth’s elements and save three nations from the wrath of one. Extras: Featurette on the origins of the story, deleted scenes, outtakes (single disc DVD/BD); the BD/DVD Combo Pack also includes a 9-part making-of docu and featurettes on the set design and more.
Disney's A Christmas Carol Robert Zemeckis directs this umpteenth retelling of Dickens’s Scrooge tale starring Jim Carrey as Scrooge and Gary Oldman as Bob Cratchit. The movie dazzles with its special effects and shiny stop-motion, but lacks some heart. Extras: Featurettes with several of the young stars, three deleted scenes (DVD); behind-the-scenes making-of, interactive 25 days until Christmas calendar, six deleted scenes (BD)
Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore A onetime elite agent goes rogue, planning to unleash a device that will bring down the world. Cats and dogs team up for the first time to bring down Kitty Galore before it’s too late. Extras: Looney Toons short - “Coyote Falls,” sneak peek of the all-new Yogi Bear theatrical film (DVD); those plus “Dog Dishing” featurette, best of cats vs. dogs animated showdown, outtakes and gag reel (BD)
Lottery Ticket Bow Wow stars as a kid who has just won millions in the lottery, but has to keep it a secret over the long holiday weekend lest his friends and neighbors find out. Of course, they do. Watch this exclusive clip [http://www.fandango.com/lotteryticketmovietrailer/2_10261/v495686]. Extras: Featurettes, “Custom Kicks,” VIP tour with T-Pain, Bill Bellamy on the du-rag phenomenon, and the casting (DVD/BD)
