A Single Man Designer Tom Ford’s Oscar-nominated film weaves a stylish, romantic story of love and loss that stars Colin Firth as a university professor mourning the death of his lover and being stalked by one of his students, all while being consoled by his beautiful best friend (Julianne Moore), who has her own doubts about the future. Extras: Director commentary, making-of featurette (DVD/BD)

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo The violent, graphic and disturbing material in this film adapted from Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s popular novel may put you off, but if you can stomach it, it’s a well-done and gripping thriller about the mystery behind a young girl’s disappearance—and the appalling family history that has something to do with it. Extras: Interview with star Noomi Rapace, a “Vanger Family Tree” featurette and the theatrical trailer.

Brooklyn’s Finest A burned-out veteran officer (Richard Gere), family man vice cop (Ethan Hawke) and morally questionable policeman (Don Cheadle) find themselves mired in the violence, drugs and corruption surrounding a case centered on one of Brooklyn’s most notorious housing projects. How they each handle the fatal crime scene and the pressures of one of the most difficult jobs out there makes this gritty police drama worth a look. Extras: Director Antoine Fuqua commentary; featurettes: “The Life of a New York Cop,” “Boyz N the Real Hood;” deleted scenes, more (DVD/BD)
