New 'Monsters University' Trailer Invites Pixar Fans to the Scare Games

We still have almost two months to go until Pixar reveals the eagerly anticipated prequel Monsters University, but with the summer season about to kick off, this seems like a good opportunity to educate audiences on the larger plot of the upcoming film and the way that several new characters are going to be used.

Of course, Monsters returns Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman), although this time, it revisits the characters’ college years to explain how they met and eventually became best friends.

Among the collegiate experiences is Scare School, fraternity pranks, a demonic dean (Helen Mirren) and The Scare Games. Learn all about them in the most recent – and most comprehensive – Monsters University trailer yet:

The clip is all high-energy, and packs in several jokes that are tied to the college setting. We learned during a recent trip to Pixar’s campus that director Dan Scanlon and his team have found a very emotional and heartfelt entrance back into the Monsters world, and I’m glad that they’ve protected that angle from this early tease.

Still, there are a lot of details in the clip that audiences might not have known about yet – particularly the importance of the Scare Games – so hopefully this does a lot to prime you for the upcoming prequel.

Pixar will release Monsters University in theaters on June 21. Will you see it in 3D?
