New 'Iron Man 2', 'Nightmare on Elm Street' Images

As the official start of the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con approaches, the major studios continue to reveal more images from their upcoming genre-based films. First up was Paramount, who shoveled out some additional pics for next year's Iron Man sequel, which just wrapped production and is due in theaters on May 7, 2010.

Today another assortment of photos from the much-anticipated sequel have arrived online via USA Today – most of which seem to be from the same two scenes: the racetrack scene and the courtroom scene. Check out four of them right here; one shows Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Rhodey (Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard from the first film) inside a courtroom with director Jon Favreau, another gives us a full-body peek at Scarlett Johansson as Stark's new assistant Natasha (aka Black Widow), and then there's an angry Stark at the racetrack and Gwyneth Paltrow returning as Pepper Potts.

Switching gears, the first shadowy image of Jackie Earle Haley as the new Freddy Krueger has mysteriously appeared online over at MySpace (see a smaller version here). While he definitely looks similar to the Freddy played by Robert Englund in the original Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, you can already tell the subtle differences in that Haley is skinnier, and, when his face is revealed, will appear more like a burn victim than a sinister demon. At least that's what I got out of the image. The new Nightmare on Elm Street will debut in theaters on April 16, 2010.

Both Iron Man 2 and Nightmare on Elm Street will be making Comic-Con appearances, so expect to here more from them before the week is out.
