While we’ve heard rumblings for months, it definitely looks like we’re going to get a sequel to G.I. Joe, and now we know who’s going to direct the thing. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon Chu has surprisingly been chosen to lead the sequel after impressing Paramount with a strong opening for Never Say Never, as well as his ability to churn out a "fan cut" of the film only three weeks after the first version hit theaters.
‘Never Say Never’s Jon Chu Directing ‘G.I. Joe 2’
Chu, who before this has helmed a series of dance-related movies (like Step Up 2 and 3), was probably a popular choice for many reasons – most of which include the fact that he’s worked with 3D before (and chances are strong G.I. Joe will be 3D), that he probably comes relatively cheap, and also has a fairly significant fanbase thanks to his work with Justin Bieber.
Now we don’t know if that means The Biebs will have a part in the sequel (we can hear the cries from Joe fans as we type this), but it’s definitely a possibility. THR reports that some of the cast may not be returning, like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sienna Miller.
Do you like the idea of Jon Chu directing G.I. Joe 2? What about Justin Bieber potentially taking on a role?
