Natalie Portman to Play an Edgy Snow White?

Natalie PortmanWith critics lining up to praise Natalie Portman's performance in the upcoming psychological thriller Black Swan – going so far as to say she's a shoe-in for an Oscar nomination – the actress is now busy lining up her future gigs, one of which may involve a Disney character we're all very familiar with.

Word has it (via Pajiba) that Portman "interested" in playing Snow White in an edgy re-imagining of the character – one that, from what we understand, will be just a tad different from the goodie-gumdrops version we're all familiar with now. Furthermore, they also report that Jean-Pierre Jeunet – known for his whimsical comedic films like Amelie and the recent Micmacs – is considering the directing job.
No word on what the story will be about yet, though they could take it in a number of directions – from setting it in contemporary times and making Snow White into some sketchy chick who needs help to going all-out fantasy with it and setting it in a forest full of seven dirty old dwarfs. Needless to say, with Portman and Jeunet involved, this is a project worth keeping your eyes on.
Do you think Natalie Portman would make a good edgy Snow White?
