'Mythbusters' Prove Jack Could Have Survived 'Titanic' Wreckage

It’s a debate that has gone on for fifteen years and now, with the help of some science (and television), we finally have an answer.

The question centers on James Cameron's Titanic and the post ship-wreck sequence in which Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack clings to the edge of a door floating in the ocean while Kate Winslet's Rose floats safely out of the icy water.

Was there enough room for Jack? Could the door support both their bodies or would it sink or flip over?

Discovery Channel's long-running show Mythbusters took on the challenge and proved, that with a some quick thinking by Jack, he could have survived. The duo of Jamie Hyneman (playing Rose) and Adam Savage (playing Jack) relayed the news to director James Cameron, who, refused to accept the results saying, "The script says Jack dies. He has to die. So maybe we screwed up and the door should have been a little bit smaller, but the dude's going down."

Watch the segment below and let us know what you think.

Here's some bonus footage of Cameron with hosts Hyneman and Savage, which includes Cameron joking that Rose would die when she slides off the door and blows the whistle trying to signal the rescue boat. OR that the Mythbusters didn't swim in icy water for 10-15 minutes.
