Classic cartoons are staking their claim at the contemporary movie theater. The other day, we reported on Bridesmaids director Paul Feig taking over the Peanuts franchise. And now Mr. Peabody & Sherman continues to carve out its niche ahead of its March release.
You might not have grown up on the cartoon, which originated with Rocky & Bullwinkle back in the 1950s. But the formula fits nicely in 2013-'14. Mr. Peabody is a brilliant dog who has “adopted” a mischievous boy named Sherman. We released an exclusive poster for next year’s movie. Now a full trailer has dropped, as well.
As you can see, the animated adventure – directed by Rob Minkoff – once again will incorporate time travel (a common tool of the classic cartoon), as Sherman, Penny and Mr. Peabody must use their trademark WABAC machine (pronounced “Way Back”) to right several historical events Sherman might have wronged while trying to impress his young friend.
That’s Modern Family star Ty Burrell voicing Mr. Peabody, a part that almost went to Robert Downey Jr. back in the day. The rest of the vocal cast includes Stephen Colbert, Leslie Mann, Allison Janney, Mel Brooks (as Sigmund Freud), Lake Bell (as Mona Lisa) and Stanley Tucci (as Leonardo da Vinci). It looks like a fun, wild ride for the whole family!
Mr. Peabody & Sherman will be in theaters in March 7, 2014. Here’s the new poster, followed by a few clips from the original TV show.
