Morning Must-Read: Bill Murray Bails on 'Ghostbusters 3,' Jack Ryan Eyes Three Beauties, and 'Thor' Finds His Villain

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Bill Murray officially will not appear in Ghostbusters 3

So says Dan Aykroyd, who tells Metro that while they have a “brilliant” new writer for the sequel, Murray will not be involved. “It's sad, but we're passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved, but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one,” Aykroyd says.

Without Murray? Consider us skeptical. How about you? Interested in a Ghostbusters movie that doesn’t have Peter Venkman in it? Or should this be the sign for Aykroyd to quit while the franchise is still ahead?

A new report in Deadline links Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones and Lost beauty Evangeline Lilly to the lead female role in the planned Jack Ryan reboot set up at Paramount. Whomever is cast will appear opposite Star Trek stud Chris Pine, who’ll assume the spy role once occupied by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. Big shoes to fill. Deadline says Knightley is the frontrunner, though whomever is cast might have to ink a deal for three potential pictures. Stay tuned.

We already know that Chris Hemsworth will be wielding the hammer in Thor: The Dark World. But who will he fight? Deadline claims that Christopher Eccleston (Dr. Who) has been signed to the production to play Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. That jives with Marvel’s claims that they want to explore fantastic new worlds with the Thor sequel. Game of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor is on board to direct.

Speaking of Hemsworth, he filmed a reboot of the ‘80s action classic Red Dawn a few years back, and the film sat in limbo as studios wrestled behind the scenes over the movie’s legal rights. Now it’s ramping up for a Nov. 21 release date, and the cast suddenly is populated with red-hot actors who weren’t quite so big when they shot the movie! In addition to Hemsworth, Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson and Friday Night Lights beauty Adrianne Palicki will defend their hometown from an invading, foreign threat. We have two new images from the film, and are happy to share them below:

Also later this year, Brad Pitt will reteam with his The Assassination of Jesse James director, Andrew Dominik, for the hard-hitting crime thriller Killing Them Softly. The movie premiered in the spring at the Cannes Film Festival, and will be in theaters on Oct. 19. The cast is tremendous, with Pitt joining Richard Jenkins, Ray Liotta and James Gandolfini. The trailer’s equally excellent. We have it below:

X-Men fans waiting for any news on the upcoming sequel to First Class will be thrilled with this news. Producer Bryan Singer spoke with IGN and confirmed that they will be following the Days Of Future Past storyline. Calling it “ambitious,” Singer spoke of expanding the X-Men universe and possibly teasing crossovers with other Marvel properties. The story mixes X-Men characters of the future with the younger versions we met in First Class, so the cast for this sequel could be massive. Also, the plotline uses Sentinels … which would be geektastic! Watch Singer in the clip below:

Finally, Russell Brand wants to produce and star in a modern story centered around Cupid, the Greek God associated with true love. I wonder what Katy Perry thinks about that?
