'Monsters University' Trailer Brings Mike and Sulley Back to School

Ring the bell … school’s officially back in session.

Pixar Animation Studio unveiled the full-length trailer for this summer’s anticipated Monsters University, which follows creature pals Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman) on their latest adventure. The original Monsters Inc. has one of the best endings in Pixar history, so how do you build on that? Simple. You create a prequel that goes back to show how Mike and Sulley met in college. Here’s the trailer:

Pixar’s sequels have been a mixed bag. The Toy Story movies successfully extended the story, but Cars 2 felt like a film made simply to maintain the company’s stronghold on a lucrative toy market. This new trailer packs a ton of good visual jokes into a short span, and sells me on the idea that the college-campus setting is the right way to find fresh ways to entertain with these beloved characters.
Crystal and Goodman will be joined by a slew of new voices contributing to an array of creative new monsters. Listen for Julia Sweeney, David Spade, Dave Foley, Michael McKean and more when the prequel opens in theaters on June 21.
