Michael Bay's 'Pain and Gain' Gets Release Date, Teases Poster

Many of you probably don’t remember that Michael Bay made movies before the Transformers franchise swallowed his career whole. Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon and The Island established Bay as a connoisseur of explosive action. These are the film that helped him land the robot-car gig in the first place.

After six years of back-to-back Autobots action, however, Bay is branching out and making a movie centered around human beings. In Pain and Gain, Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson play South Florida bodybuilders who get caught up in an extortion ring. But Bay has been telling journalists that it’s a dark comedy, so while things are bound to get very bad for the two action heroes, I’m guessing Pain has more in common with a Coen Brothers film – like Fargo or even Raising Arizona – than it does with Dark of the Moon.

At least, that’s what I’m hoping.

Paramount revealed that Pain and Gain will open on April 26, 2013. And to seal the deal, they posted the first poster from the film. No pictures of the leading men. And Michael Bay’s name is relatively small. But still, an interesting design. I can’t wait to see the trailer, so we can get an idea what Bay has in store with this one-off picture. Because he’s running right back to Transformers 4, but not before this muscle-bound pit stop into dark comedy.
