Meet The New Three Musketeers!

In case you weren't aware, not only is there one Three Musketeers movie being planned, but two! The first – which is to be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Death Race, Resident Evil, Alien vs. Predator) – has just cast a whole bunch of people. Anderson's Musketeers looks like it will follow along with the original novel, which told the story of a young man named D'Artagnan (to be played by Logan Lerman) who leaves home on a mission to become a guard of the musketeers fighting force.

The Three Musketeers

D'Artagnan is not one of the three musketeers – those are Athos (to be played by Luke Evans), Porthos (to be played by Ray Stevenson) and Aramis (to be played by Matthew Mcfayden), three good friends who live by the motto, "all for one, one for all". In addition to the four good guys, the villains will be played by Christoph Waltz (who won an Oscar for playing the villain in Inglourious Basterds) and Mads Mikkelsen (who played the villain in Casino Royale), playing Cardinal Richelieu and Rochefort, respectively.

Additionally, Anderson's real-life wife Milla Jovovich will play a former love interest of Athos, and is described as a "17th century Bond girl". An offer is also out to Orlando Bloom to play nemesis the Duke of Buckingham. Oh, and did I tell you the whole thing will be in 3D? Yup, a film set in the 17th century will come to us in 3D. Weird? Maybe. Interested in what something like that will look like? Most definitely!

The other Three Musketeers project is set up over at Warner Bros., with Doug Liman (Jumper, Swingers) on board to direct. Not for nothing, but the Anderson version has a pretty fine cast, and it'll now be up to Warners to either top it or fold.
