Meet the New 'Fletch': Jason Sudeikis?

Spot-on casting or epic fail?

Possibly taking on the iconic role Chevy Chase made famous in the '80s, Jason Sudeikis is in talks to play Fletch in the origin story Fletch Won, which producers at Anonymous Content describe as"a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with Mcdonald's novels than the Chase movies" with a Beverly Hills Cop or Midnight Run vibe. Producers will now look for a director.

The 12-book Gregory Mcdonald mystery novel series about L.A. investigative journalist I.M. Fletcher began in 1974. Chase starred in 1985's Fletch and 1989's Fletch Lives, both generally known for being more Chevy Chase vehicles than they were true to the series.

Can Sudeikis fill his shoes, or is there a good reason why we haven't seen a Fletch movie in 25 years?
