Star Wars Day is coming! May 4th marks the day when fans dress up like their favorite characters, re-watch the movies and hold elaborate Star Wars parties.

It’s a day that will be long remembered, and the best way to take part is by baking up some delicious death star cookies. That’s no moon, it’s two gray sugar cookies pressed together with a fluffy cream center.

Truly the deadliest of all desserts, these ARE the cookies you’re looking for. May the fourth be with you!

Death Star Cookies

Cookie ingredients:

3 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

pinch of salt

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

Super Black food gel dye

Ingredients (filling):

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar until combined. Add the egg, vanilla and 1-2 drops of black food gel dye.

Slowly add in the flour just until incorporated. When the dough starts to pull away from the bowl, it’s done. Split the dough into two and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill until you're ready to use.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prep baking sheets with silpats.

Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use your cutter to cut out the shapes and transfer onto the silpat lined baking sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes depending on your oven.

Let cool on a wire rack. While the cookies are cooling, start the filling.

Filling directions:

In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter while carefully adding the powdered sugar.

Add the vanilla and beat until creamy.

Using a piping bag or a spatula, place the filling on the (flat) side of one cookie. Press on top with another cookie to serve.
