Following starring roles in Bernie, Magic Mike, Killer Joe and The Paperboy last year, Matthew McConaughey certainly enjoyed one of the best years of his career. That momentum isn't going to end anytime soon as McConaughey stars in Jeff Nichols' latest drama, Mud.
The film premiered last year at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Palme d'Or (it lost out to this year's foreign film award season juggernaut Amour) and hasn't been seen since.
In this film, McConaughey stars as a fugitive on the run who forms a pact with two teenage boys he encounters. They agree to help him evade bounty hunters as he tries to reunite with his true love, played by Reese Witherspoon.
Nichols earned all sorts of honors and nominations for his 2011 drama Take Shelter, which starred Michael Shannon as a young husband and father who questions his family's from a coming storm.
Shannon is back in Mud, joining a supporting cast that includes Sarah Paulson and Sam Shepard.
Mud gets a limited release on April 26. Check out the first trailer below and sound off with your thoughts on the film. Will you seek it out in theaters?
