Last week, Deadline announced that Fox had narrowed down their wish list of who they would like to have replace Rupert Wyatt in the director's chair for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Matt Reeves, who had previously helmed Cloverfield and the remake Let Me In had emerged as the front-runner and today, Fox announced that Reeves would indeed helm the sequel.
The film is set to arrive in theaters May 23, 2014, a date that Wyatt felt uncomfortable with and thus exited from the project. Andy Serkis will be returning and Dawn is being written by Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
Of all the names on the shortlist, Reeves definitely shows the most promise. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with as he steps up and helms his first tentpole feature. Do you think Reeves it the right guy for the job?
