Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner Rumored to Join Tom Cruise in 'Magnificent Seven' Remake

When word that The Magnificent Seven was getting the remake treatment first hit, we knew Hollywood was going to go big. They got off to a good start, roping in Tom Cruise for one of the roles.

Now a rumor is circulating (via a notoriously unreliable source) that Matt Damon has signed on while Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner are circling the project. The U.K. Sun says Damon is set for the role of Vin, the character played by Steve McQueen in the original.

Costner is said to be up for the part of Britt, originally played by James Coburn while Cruise is taking the Yul Brynner role of Chris Larabee Adams.

So what about Freeman? The paper says the actor, who recently turned 75, will take on the villain role as the leader of a gang of bandits.

An anonymous source is also quoted saying "MGM are throwing big money at the film and wanted some top names to fill the main parts. You can't get much bigger than Cruise and Damon." While the studio is sure to headline this remake with some A-list stars, keep in mind the Sun's record for breaking casting news is pretty shaky, including the proclamation a while back that Eddie Murphy was playing The Riddler in The Dark Knight.

We'll keep you posted in case there's more solid evidence that points to these rumors being true. In the meanwhile, what do you think of this potential cast? Who else should be added to the remake?
