Marvel's 'Ant-Man' Moves into the Vacated 'Batman-Superman' Slot

One massive superhero movie moves off the release-date calendar, and another quickly moves into its slot.

You probably already know that Warner Bros. has delayed Zack Snyder’s Batman-Superman movie from July 2015 to May 2016, giving the director more time to plot this massive team-up and figure out the future of the D.C. cinematic universe. Before summer ’15 was able to catch its breath, Marvel quickly moved its own Ant-Man into the weekend slot, meaning fans can now see Edgar Wright’s superhero flick earlier than expected.

Variety broke the news, saying that Ant-Man now will go up against Joe Wright’s Pan, a reinvention of the Peter Pan legacy. Coincidentally, that film just officially cast Hugh Jackman as the pirate Blackbeard, so anchor’s away!

Ant-Man was supposed to come out on July 31. It now will be in theaters on July 17, 2015. It is the first film in Marvel’s Phase Three (I believe), if only because that particular summer is going to kick off with The Avengers: Age of Ultron…. possibly the MOST anticipated superhero movie of the modern era.

That’s not an exaggeration.

Wright has cast Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas in his Ant-Man movie. It’s currently in preproduction, with a film shoot expected to take place in Georgia.
