Fresh off of one remake (Total Recall), Deadline reports that director Len Wiseman is close to signing a deal that will have him helming Universal's proposed remake of The Mummy. Universal announced The Mummy remake back in April with Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts writing the script.
So what's going to be different about this remake? Wiseman tells Deadline, "It's a darker twist on the material, a scarier version."
Universal is targeting the PG-13 rating with the remake, hoping to appeal to every available audience member as possible.
Of course, that didn't quite work out so well with Wiseman's take on Total Recall which earned just under $60 million domestically. The international box office helped bump that total up to $172 million against a $125 million budget.
We can probably expect more blue tint cinematography, lots of CG action sequences and wife Kate Beckinsale to appear somewhere along the way.
