Joss Whedon has been busy walking red carpets and helping promote the launch of Marvel's Phase Two with a little movie called Iron Man 3. Of course, anytime a reporter starts to chat with him, the conversation inevitably turns to The Avengers 2.
Speaking with Spanish-language site Desde Hollywood, Whedon hinted that the super-villain Thanos may be saved for "the big finale" in The Avengers 3, the final chapter of Marvel's Phase Three batch of films. The comment reinforces Whedon's earlier comments of "other villains shaking up" the heroes in The Avengers 2.
Might this mean an Avengers/Guardians of the Galaxy team up in The Avengers 3 to defeat the mighty villain?
Meanwhile, Whedon also talked about what makes Robert Downey Jr. almost irreplaceable as Iron Man.
Whedon praised the actor saying, "The way he embodies it… I love working with him. Shane [Black] captures it so perfectly in [Iron Man 3]. I want him to play it forever. He's got some fight in him. At the same time, if Robert decides to hang it up, he has a perfectly good excuse."
What do you think of a potential Thanos versus Avengers/Guardians show-down in The Avengers 3 and could Marvel's Iron Man-less Phase Three look like this: Ant-Man (2015), Thor 3 and Captain America 3 (2016), Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017) and The Avengers 3 in 2018?
