Johnny Depp Considering a Fifth 'Pirates' Movie

Johnny Depp is considering a fifth go-round at a pirate's life and a giant paycheck. He's currently in negotiations to sign a deal for a new installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, says The Wrap's unnamed sources. The recently released On Stranger Tides has grossed over $1 billion at the box office, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in May that if the fourth installment did well Depp would make a return as the swashbuckling Captain Jack Sparrow. However, Bruckheimer was clear that Depp's return to the role would depend on the screenplay. " … It always does. He’s maniacal about not wanting to disappoint his audience," he said.

That would explain why a source is reporting that the producer and his team have been meeting three to four times a week to tighten up a rough draft of the script, and that " … the broad strokes were in place for a deal with the lead actor." Depp's people and Disney aren't saying anything about the actor's involvement, but all signs are pointing toward a yes from Depp. He talked to Entertainment Weekly in January about a fifth film: "As long as we can put all the puzzle pieces together, I would most definitely consider it.

Depp will be starring in the Bruckheimer produced The Lone Ranger as Tonto, which starts shooting this fall. Given his lengthy relationship with the producer and love of the character, it'd be hard to imagine him saying no. The bazillions of dollars don't hurt either. Which way do you think the actor is leaning on this one? Do you even want another Pirates movie, or has the salty sea air turned sour for you?
