James Franco will Star in 'Wizard of Oz' Prequel

First it was Robert Downey Jr. who was set to play the man who would eventually become the Wizard of Oz, and then when he backed out Disney wanted Johnny Depp to fill his shoes. When they failed to land either man (mainly due to scheduling conflicts), they went to James Franco, an actor who's been everywhere as of late. James Franco

Now, according to Deadline, Franco is in the midst of finalizing his deal to play the young circus worker/illusionist who is magically transported to the land of Oz where he eventually takes over and rules the land (from behind a curtain). The film, titled Oz: The Great and Powerful (based on the book by L. Frank Baum), will reportedly shoot this summer, and it will reunite Franco with his Spider-Man director Sam Raimi on a big, splashy $200 million production that is sure to show us a heckuva lot more of Oz than we've ever seen before.
No word yet on who will join Franco in the cast (though we expect a few witches will show up), but if it were up to you, who would you bring on to star alongside this year's Oscar co-host?
