"It’s still happening," Rose Byrne’s frightened mother says in the new trailer for James Wan’s sequel Insidious: Chapter 2.
The "it" in her reference refers to the haunting of her son, which – you’ll remember – caused a wealth of pain and suffering for the family at the heart of Wan’s 2011 hit Insidious.
Another séance. More creepy voices coming over the baby’s monitor. Patrick Wilson hints at some secrets from the original that still need to be revealed, but Insidious 2 looks like it follows the formula of the original… to the letter.
The Insidious sequel has the built-in benefit of opening on an inherently creepy date of Friday the 13th, in this case Friday, September 13. Will audiences flock for similar scares? Or does Wan have new tricks up his sleeve as he explores the angry spiritual forces that plague Wilson, Byrne and their children? Find out in September.
