Most of the focus this weekend will be on the showdown between family-friendly animated comedy Hotel Transylvania and the sci-fi action flick Looper. A few new indies hit the theaters this weekend, but we should also point out that Pitch Perfect opens in limited release before it expands nationwide next week. This week's indie offerings include a trip back to the '90s with The Other Dream Team, Milla Jovovich in a family comedy, a stirring look at American health care and Thai action-thriller Headshot.
This stirring documentary chronicles the 1992 Lithuanian national basketball team, whose athletes struggled under Soviet rule and eventually became symbols for Lithuania's independence movement, with help from The Grateful Dead. The team would go on to triumph at the Barcelona Olympics winning the bronze medal in the shadow of Team USA's Dream Team, which featured basketball legends Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and Earvin "Magic" Johnson.
This Thai neo-noir thriller centers on a detective who spends three months in a coma after being shot in the head. When he wakes up, he sees everything upside-down and sets out to kill anyone who lives above the law. NOTE: Trailer contains very brief flashes of nudity.
Milla Jovovich puts down the weapons and take a break from butt-kicking to star in this family comedy about a con artist who moves her son to a conservative neighborhood in Oklahoma in an attempt to build a better life for themselves. It doesn't take long for her past to catch up with her and her son's behavior to cause problems of their own. Co-starring Bill Pullman and Maria Cross, the film is written and directed by Famke Janssen, yes, Jean Grey from the X-Men movies.
This Chinese comedy centers on a long-time film producer who has yet to produce anything resembling a hit movie. Facing financial troubles, he has become desperate for money and is introduced to the head of a triad gang who has very particular tastes in food and sex. Together, they set out to make an erotic film, but in-fighting and egos get in the way and could bring the whole production to a halt. NSFW trailer can be viewed here.
The 2009 action adventure fantasy finally arrives on American screens. Centered on a 16th Century killing machine who finds spirituality after an encounter with the Devil's Reaper, he embarks on a mission to take down the Overload whose human Raiders are ravaging England. The film is directed by Michael J. Bassett, who also helmed the upcoming Silent Hill sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, in theaters next month.

Spanning over 24 hours and seeing a flood of 241 patients, the staff at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California struggle to find a balance between treating diseases and injuries and battling red tape and bureaucracy.
