'Indiana Jones' Series Next to be Converted to 3D?

Since George Lucas is already busy planning 3D versions of all six Star Wars movies, with the first (Episode 1) arriving in theaters in 2012, it's not far-fetched to believe he'd want to continue the trend by converting another beloved franchise to 3D as well. Rumor has it that next month Lucas will announce that the Indiana Jones series will also be converted to 3D and re-released in theaters alongside the Star Wars franchise.

Indiana Jones

There's not much else to go on, and this is still in the rumor stages, but it wouldn't surprise us in the least if there winds up being some truth behind this. Both Lucas and Spielberg are diving head-first into the world of 3D (Lucas with his Star Wars conversions, and Spielberg with his Adventures of Tintin movies), and so it's easy to see both men itching to bring back Indiana Jones with an added dimension, and perhaps use this to help launch the next chapter in the series.

From a fan's perspective, the Indiana Jones movies never felt like they needed to be in 3D. Sure, the opening scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark would be fun to watch in 3D -- and I'm sure there are several other scenes that would work – but, unlike Star Wars (with its large battle sequences and futuristic feel), the Indiana Jones movies take place in the '40s and '50s, and don't really feel like films that belong in 3D. Then again, maybe I'm a little too close to the movies having grown up with them and all.

What do you think? Should the Indiana Jones movies be re-released in 3D?
