'Hugo' Dominates Early but 'The Artist' Claims Best Picture Oscar

And so we've come to the end of Awards season. The 84th annual Academy Awards were handed out tonight and while Hugo dominated much of the technical categories, The Artist laid claim to the major awards of best picture, directing and best actor (Jean Dujardin).

Hugo started off the night with five wins and it seemed like the Martin Scorsese family film was well on its way to scoop up some major awards. But in the end, the momentum built up by Michael Hazanavicius' silent film was too much to overcome.
