'Hotel Transylvania 2' Confirmed for 2015

Pack your bags and put a call in to room service: Hotel Transylvania is opening back up for a planned sequel in 2015. Start making your reservations now.

Sony Pictures Animation confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that a follow-up to the smash-hit animation comedy will be in theaters on Sept. 25, 2015 (a date that’s written in pencil, for sure).

No news on vocal casting has been revealed yet, though it’s safe to assume that Sony will lure stars Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg and Selena Gomez back for the sequel. There are so many different directions you could go with the story of Count Dracula and his vampire daughter. The sky seems to be the limit for this horror-comedy franchise.

Transylvania 2, however, will have to do it without director Genndy Tartakovsky, who apparently is moving on to Sony’s animated Popeye movie (confirmed in the THR story as having a Sept. 26, 2014 release date).

Still, the audience is there for Hotel Transylvania 2. While Sony likely didn’t view this as a franchise with legs, the original has banked roughly $270 million worldwide – more than enough to justify a second chapter in the ongoing story.
