Steven Soderbergh’s film Magic Mike, about sensitive beefcake dancer Mike Lane and based on the real-life exploits of former male-dancer-turned-actor Channing Tatum, became a sensation in 2012. The film grossed $167 million worldwide and launched its lead into stardom. Since then, the stripper-with-a-heart-of-gold story has been bandied about with regards to a sequel and a Broadway musical. Now comes word from Warner Bros. that the sequel, reportedly titled Magic Mike XXL, will arrive in theaters on July 3, 2015.
As far as story goes, Tatum has hinted it will be a “road-trip movie,” with more oiled-up bodies and lighter on the serious stuff — “essentially be the movie that everyone thought the first one was going to be.” Most of the cast is expected back, including Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and Joe Manganiello.
