Last month, Marvel's short list of actors to play the lead role of Peter Quill in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was revealed. The list included names like Joel Edgerton, Lee Pace, Garrett Hedlund and Les Miserables' Eddie Redmayne.
Variety reports that the short list has gotten even shorter, with Zachary Levi (left) and Jim Sturgess (right) emerging Marvel's top two choices for the role. The site also reports a third "unnamed actor" will also try out for the role.
Sturgess was last seen earlier this year in Cloud Atlas, but has also starred in One Day opposite Anne Hathaway, 21 with Kevin Spacey and the musical drama Across the Universe.
Meanwhile, Levi is best known for portraying the title character in NBC's spy comedy Chuck for five seasons and also voiced Flynn Rider in Disney's Tangled. He's also portraying the warrior Fandral in Thor: The Dark World. Marvel has had their eye on Levi for a while and are said to be impressed with his test screening and are "open to continuing their relationship."
Marvel will most likely make their decision sometime next month, as the movie is slated to begin filming later next year. Guardians arrives in theaters on August 1, 2014.
Now that we have our final two actors, who do you think best fits the Quill role? Does Levi's history with Disney/Marvel give him an inside edge?
