Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ Broadway Play Getting Big Screen Treatment

What started out as a 2004 rock opera album and transformed into 2009 Award-winning stage production is now being adapted for the big screen. Playbill has confirmed that the punk rock band’s American Idiot will be arriving in theaters in 2013.

Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong will play drug-dealing fiend St. Jimmy with Tom Hanks’ Playtone Productions distributing. Playtone brought us the 2008 smash hit musical Mamma Mia, which grossed over $600 million worldwide.
American Idiot completed its Broadway run in April this year and will begin a national tour commencing in Toronto on December 28. The tour will make its way across the country and conclude in San Francisco early July 2012.
Did you see American Idiot on Broadway? Are you a Green Day fan and if so, are you excited to see this play be adapted into a film?
