Golden Globe Nominations Announced!

Golden GlobesThe 2011 Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, and there were a few surprises to be found. The Globes, unlike the Oscars, are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press, and as such the categories are a bit different. Not only is TV included, but film (as well as TV) is separated into drama and comedy. This year Katie Holmes and Josh Duhamel braved the early morning fog to hand out the much-anticipated nominations. So who were the big winners and even bigger disappointments?

The King’s Speech was the big winner with 7 nominations, while The Social Network and The Fighter each took home 6 each. The Fighter is perhaps one of the biggest surprises, since no one really thought it had a shot outside a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Christian Bale. Now it’s definitely a strong contender for multiple Oscars.
And check out Johnny Depp being nominated twice in the same category (Best Actor, Comedy or Musical), for both Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist. Additionally, Annette Bening and Julianne Moore will be competing against each other in the Best Actress (Comedy or Musical) category for their roles in The Kids Are All Right.
Biggest snubs: Right off the bat, True Grit didn’t take home one nomination, which is a real shame because the film is pretty great. We’ll chalk that up to not enough awareness among the Hollywood Foreign Press. Also, in terms of big audience favorites, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I were all snubbed. Oh well, there’s always Oscar.
Check out the full list of nominations below and let us know what you think.
