'Godzilla' Reboot Heats Up With a 2014 Release Date
Brace yourself, Tokyo: A revitalized Godzilla plans to roar back into theaters in 2014.
Fans who attended Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con in July were treated to a quick surprise, a title card and quick clip of a suggested Godzilla reboot. But details on the new film were scarce beyond the fact that it was going to happen. No one really knew how or when.
Today, we’re getting answers. Monsters director Gareth Edwards has been tapped to helm the new Godzilla. According to a news release, scripting duties fall to David Callaham (The Expendables), David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy) and Max Borenstein. And the film is expected to be presented (and hopefully filmed) in 3D.
As for when you’ll be able to see it, Warner and Legendary have circled May 16, 2014 on the release-date calendar. That gives the studios plenty of time to cast the epic monster mash, and perfect the effects they will use to bring the fire-breathing Godzilla back from the depths of the radioactive sea.
What do you think? Are we ready for a Godzilla reboot? And whom would you like to see as the human members of the Godzilla 2014 cast? Share your thoughts below.
