Despite Bill Murray's adamant stance that he would not participate in the Ghostbusters three-quel, you didn't think that would be enough to shut down production, did you? One way or another, Sony Pictures was going to make this movie happen and now it looks as though they have a start date.
Buried in a Deadline article about Tom Cruise and Kevin Costner flicks was a quick one sentence mention that director Ivan Reitman would helm the Ghostbusters reboot, without Murray, and begin production next summer.
There's no mention of casting in this reboot, but it's safe to say Dan Aykroyd, who has been championing the film will return along with fellow Ghostbuster Harold Ramis. It's also probably safe to assume Ernie Hudson will return, but the main focus will be to pass the torch to a new generation of Ghostbusters.
A few names that were previously rumored included Bill Hader, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Emma Stone and Anna Faris, though there hasn't been any mention of them since the rumors were first floated online.
With a start date now in place, are you excited for a third Ghostbusters movie, even without Bill Murray? Who would you like to see Aykroyd and crew pass the torch on to?
