Fun Find: ‘Super 8’ Interactive Trailer

Super 8We may be looking at the future of movie marketing right here, and if so then it’s pretty cool, especially if you’re a gamer who’s also a movie geek. Hidden as part of the extra features in the game Portal 2 is an interactive trailer for the upcoming movie Super 8, directed by J.J. Abrams. Unlike other interactive trailers that may allow you to click on certain pop-ups while a trailer is playing in order to learn more about the making of the film, this particular one puts you inside the trailer and lets you explore.

It’s a genius idea, really, and in typical J.J. Abrams fashion, he gives you just enough information to whet your appetite without spoiling all the best surprises. If you’ve seen the Super 8 trailer, then you know there’s a major train crash somewhere in Middle America that ends with some sort of creature escaping. This interactive trailer begins by placing you on the train, allowing you to explore one particular car right before the accident occurs. Then, once it crashes, you’re placed outside the wreckage and allowed to poke around until something breaks out of a train car and lets out a loud roar. Pretty cool stuff.
Check out a walkthrough of the interactive trailer below (courtesy of Kotaku), as well as the latest Super 8 trailer to help provide more context.
