Fun Find: Live Action ‘Monopoly’ Movie Trailer

There’s been some kind of Monopoly movie in the works for awhile now, with Ridley Scott attached to produce (and possibly direct). From time to time we’ll get a vague update from Scott or from someone at Hasbro, but nothing much after that. Last we heard they were attempting to get a Monopoly movie in theaters by 2012 or 2013, but that was last year and there’s been quite a bit of radio silence ever since.

Monopoly

That’s not stopping folks from putting out their own fake Monopoly movie trailer before anyone in Hollywood has a chance to create a real one. Created by a group called Half Day Today, the two-minute trailer feels like a gritty Alice in Wonderland, except this rabbit hole leads to a world where houses and hotels are painted red and green, and passing Go can get you killed.

When asked why they made it, director Matthew Stubstad told CNN, "Our goal was to get a trailer out before the studio [released] theirs. We wanted to make fun of how Hollywood is kind of grabbing anything they can to make a movie out of it."

Check it out below and let us know what you think. Can Hollywood really make a successful movie based on the Monopoly board game?
