The King of Monsters returns from the depths of the ocean as Godzilla prepares to invade American theaters for the first time in decades. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures teased audiences with a moody clip a few weeks back. But the full trailer unleashes all of the chaos and insanity that you’d expect to follow the reemergence of Godzilla. This one promises to be one of the most explosive, destructive forces on the summer 2014 schedule.

The film costars such human actors as Aaron Taylor Johnson (Kick-Ass), Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche and the brilliant Bryan Cranston. But the real draw – the reason you’ll likely buy tickets right here on Fandango – is to witness the full, destructive rage of Godzilla once he touches down on our mainland.
There are real connections to the creature’s past in this movie, with references to the experiments of the 1950s that led to the creation of this atomic-era creature. That’s a very nice touch for a franchise that has enjoyed real fan support over the decades.
The trailer also begins to answer the question of how and why a Godzilla movie could appeal to crowds in the wake of Pacific Rim, where giant robots are commissioned to fight giant monsters like this. Plus, if you look closely in the backgrounds of key moments, Godzilla fans think that they see some classic Godzilla villains. Mothra, maybe?
The new Godzilla released a poster to go along with this clip.
Godzilla will be in theaters on May 16. Did this trailer sell you on the possibility of an all-new, kick-butt Godzilla movie?
