From 'Gossip Girl' to 'Green Lantern'

Not long ago we told you how there were five actresses being considered for the love interest role in The Green Lantern, which will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and already has Ryan Reynolds playing one of DC's most beloved superheroes. The five gals up for the role at the time were Eva Green, Keri Russell, Jennifer Garner, Blake Lively and Diane Kruger.

Blake Lively

Now, taking into account that the character she'd be playing (Carol Ferris) is about 27 in the script and is highly educated in the comics, you'd think it'd be smart to go with a slightly older veteran actress opposite Reynolds, like Russell (my choice) or Garner or even Kruger. Well, think again -- because The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Gossip Girl's Blake Lively has been cast in the role.
At 22 years of age, Lively is definitely a little young for the role on paper, but perhaps they'll age her up a bit by using those old Hollywood tricks like giving her a pair of glasses or making her wear her hair in a ponytail. Those two things alone should age the gal a good five years or so. Lively has already appeared in films like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, New York, I Love You and the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed The Town, but this will mark her first major Hollywood blockbuster and could signal the "coming out" party for the next big actress to make waves.
What do you all think? Are you fans of Blake Lively? Do you think she can handle co-starring in a major superhero movie? Sound off below…
