Follow the Yellow Brick Road to See How 'The Wizard Of Oz' Was Converted into IMAX 3D

Following the success of this year's Oz the Great and Powerful, the IMAX 3D rerelease of The Wizard of Oz is set to arrive in theaters next weekend.

While Sam Raimi's prequel proved to be a successful venture for Disney, Warner Bros. has been working in conjunction with IMAX and 3D and digital conversion company Prime Focus to bring The Wizard of Oz to a new generation for several years now.

As detailed in the four-minute featurette, more than 1,000 people worked to bring the classic tale of Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and Toto to IMAX screens nationwide.

The process involved frame-by-frame inspection, restoration and 3D conversion by the folks at Prime Focus. Prime Focus has converted World War Z, The Great Gatsby and Frankenweeine among recent titles.
