Five Screenings Worth Checking Out at Comic-Con

Well, here we are. With just over 24 hours to go before the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con gets underway,  we take a look at five screenings worth checking out this year.

Wilfred Screening and Q&A - (Thursday, 7/21 6:15p.-7:30p., Room 6A) – Wilfred is an American adaptation of the 2007 Australian TV dramedy which starred Jason Gann. This version stars Elijah Wood as Ryan, a young man who is struggling to make it in the world until he meets Wilfred, his neighbor’s dog, played by Gann. While everyone see Wilfred as a dog, Ryan sees him as a surly, crude man dressed in a cheap dog suit. Wood, Gann and select others from the cast will entertain questions following the screening. If anything, it’s a great chance to get your pic taken with Frodo.
Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness(Friday, 7/22 11:45a.-12:45p., Room 6A) – Can’t get enough Po? Nickelodeon and DreamWorks Animation have teamed up to create an inevitable animated series featuring our favorite bumbling panda with a heart of gold and the rest of his butt-kicking crew. The sneak peek will include a Q&A session with the voice cast.
ThunderCats Premiere Screening and Q&A – (Friday, 7/22 3:30p.-4:30p., Room 6A) – Comic-Con, Comic-Con, Comic-Con, ho!! Since the moment it was announced, fans have been clamoring to catch a glimpse of this re-imagined ‘80s favorite. There will also be a Q&A session following the screening where show producers will talk about what to expect from Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Wily Kit and Snarf in the first season of the Cartoon Network show.
Batman Year One(Friday, 7/22 8p.-10p., Ballroom 20) – If you plan on attending this premiere screening, start lining up now. With the release of the Dark Knight Rises teaser, um, teasing us with what’s to come next summer, the demand to check out this Warner Bros. animated feature is going to be as fierce as an uppercut from Bane. So much so that there’s an encore screening at 10:15p. in the same room. The screening will also include Q&A with the cast which includes Bryan Cranston, Ben McKenzie, Eliza Dushku and Katee Sackhoff. Check out the trailer below.

Cowboys and Aliens Premiere – (Saturday, 7/23, San Diego Civic Theater) – Granted this is an invite only event limited to 2,000 fans which have been selected by director Jon Favreau, but if you’re one of the lucky few selected to check out this sci-fi-Western mash-up, you’re in for a treat. This is Comic-Con after all and the surprise appearance by Favreau and cast members, who attended last year’s Con, is definitely possible.
But let’s say you’re not one of the lucky 2,000. Well, then there’s always…
Captain America: The First Avenger Premiere – (Thursday 7/21, 10a. & 12p., UA Horton Plaza Theater) – Paramount Pictures will release Captain America across the street from Comic-Con at the UA Horton Plaza. The 10a.m. screening is for fans who received a special invite. If you’re not on that list, you’ll have to wait two excruciating hours until the noon screening. Paramount is expected to put on a full Captain America-themed presentation at the theater including USO-costumed women standing at the American Flag Pole passing out free tickets.
Sunday will feature a ton of family-friendly screening, including Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry and the Wizard of Oz and Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated. We’ll be running full Comic-Con coverage over on Fanboy Fix and for even more coverage, jump on over to!
