Ever since Peter Jackson doled out his epic Lord of the Rings trilogy, the writer-director instantly became one of the hottest filmmakers in Hollywood. Following LotR, his fans were itching for more spectacle, and he gave it to them with a fairly decent King Kong remake. But after Kong, Jackson wanted to slow it down a little – and a lot of his fans were surprised to see the guy sign up to direct an adaptation of Alice Sebold's bestselling novel, The Lovely Bones.
After what's felt like an eternity waiting to see something, anything, the first trailer for Jackson's The Lovely Bones has finally arrived online … and with it comes what looks to be a heartbreaking drama that mixes fantasy with a pretty intense thriller vibe. The film (and book) tells of a young girl who's murdered and then, stuck somewhere between heaven and earth, watches over her loved ones as they grieve and take it upon themselves to track down the killer.
You can watch the trailer over on Apple, and I have to say I'm really digging it. Stanley Tucci looks creepy as hell as the child's killer, and Jackson really did some fun stuff with the space between heaven and earth. Also looking to churn out award-caliber performances are Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, Rachel Weisz and Saoirse Ronan.
The Lovely Bones hits theaters on December 11. Let us know what you think about the trailer in the comments below.
