First Look: Six Facts About Disney's Live-Action 'Cinderella'

Disney kicked off the week by debuting the first image from its live-action adaptation of Cinderella. Click the image for a larger version.

The movie is being directed by Kenneth Branagh (the guy who directed Thor, the upcoming Jack Ryan: Shadow One and numerous Shakespearean movies) and stars Lily James in the title role. The movie isn't scheduled to arrive in theaters until March 13, 2015 (yes, that's a Friday) but here are five things to know about the film, which has begun production.

1. A number of actresses were considered for the title role. The list included established stars like Saoirse Ronan and Emma Watson and rising stars Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair, Anna Karenina) and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers, Carrie).

2. Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, Fright Night), Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows, In Time), Margot Robbie (About Time, The Wolf of Wall Street) and Lily James also tested for the lead role. The role went to James.

3. So who is Lily James? You may remember know her as Lady Rose MacClare in Downton Abbey...

… or as Poppy in Secret Diary of a Call Girl

… or Lisa Temple in Fast Girls.

4. She's a 24-year-old actress from Surrey, England. Before breaking into the film world, she played several roles in 2010 and 2011 theatrical plays. Her first role was the part of Korrina in Wrath of the Titans.

5. Who else is in this movie? Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine, Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother, Richard Madden as Prince Charming and Stellan Skarsgard as Grand Duke. Captain America beauty Hayley Atwell will play Cinderella's biological mother.

6. Richard Madden is probably best known for playing Robb Stark on the hit TV series Game of Thrones.
