Those curious to see what Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Grindhouse) and Nimrod Antal have in store for this summer's Predators sequel/reboot/re-invention got a nice treat over the weekend when Rodriguez premiered a behind-the-scenes look at the film at the same time that he premiered the trailer at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
The trailer itself will premiere for everyone else on March 18th, and the film is scheduled to hit theaters this July, but in the meantime Rodriguez (who's acting as a sort of hands-on producer while Antal directs) gave fans at home a nice taste by introducing a behind-the-scenes featurette on the film's new website, as well as images of new Predators like some kind of weird Predator dog.
In case you're not up to speed on what is slowly shaping up to be one of summer's biggest films, this version of Predator will follow several folks from earth who are kidnapped and dropped into the middle of the jungle on the Predators home planet for a little game of hunt and hide. Adrien Brody and Topher Grace lead the charge alongside several others, while Laurence Fishburne plays a guy who's somehow managed to survive on the planet for some time now.
Rodriguez told audiences at SXSW that he had written a Predators script a long time ago – one that was ridiculously outrageous and balls-to-the-wall in every conceivable way because he knew he wasn't directing it. Years later, Fox came back and said they wanted to use his original script and re-work it a little, but since Rodriguez was busy directing other film, he gave the job to Antal and took on a producer role so he could at least be involved in making sure everything went right.
Check out the sneak preview below, and more over on their official Predators website. Then let us know what you think: Is Predators one of your most anticipated films of summer 2010, or do you think it will be a little too gory for you?
