Fire's Out? 'The Green Inferno' Pulled, Faces a Terrifying Future

The Green Inferno

Debuting last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, Eli Roth's The Green Inferno received generally positive reviews and secured a distribution deal. Anticipation has been building ever since for its wide theatrical release on September 5. But now we'll have to wait a bit longer, since the film has been pulled from the calendar by its distributor, Open Road Films.

According to Deadline, the distributor must resolve questions that have been raised by the film's financier, Worldview Entertainment. It's not yet known if The Green Inferno will head to theaters at a later date, or go straight to home video.

The movie follows a group of student activists to South America who crash-land in the jungle and encounter a very hungry tribe of cannibals. It's the first feature directorial effort by Eli Roth since 2007's Hostel: Part II. Since then, he's kept busy as an actor, writer and producer, working on projects such as Inglourious Basterds, Aftershock, The Man Wwth the Iron Fists, The Sacrament and Hemlock Grove.

While horror fans wait impatiently for The Green Inferno, Roth is finishing up horror-thriller Knock, Knock, which he directed as well as cowrote and produced, and is producing the thriller Lake Mead, for which he cowrote the script with Nicolas Lopez (Aftershock) and director Jessica Chandler.

While we wait for a new release date to be announced, you can watch a trailer for The Green Inferno below.
