Fanboy Fix: 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Lands Familiar Director; 'Spider-Man 2' Confirms 3D IMAX Screenings

Sony Pictures announced today that Marc Webb’s sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will get a 3D IMAX release, reaching international theaters earlier than U.S. locations but still promising a massive Spidey experience for fans worldwide.

"After the enormous worldwide success of The Amazing Spider-Man, we're looking forward to partnering again with Marc Webb, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, and our friends at Sony Pictures to offer IMAX fans around the world an opportunity to experience this highly anticipated film in the immersive IMAX 3D format," said Greg Foster , CEO of IMAX Entertainment and senior executive vice president, IMAX Corp.

American Spidey fans will have to wait until May 2, 2014 to see Spider-Man in action once again. International audiences will start to see Spidey 2 on April 16, 2014. All of the prints will be digitally remastered, with enhanced audio. This will be the format in which true fans will want to see Webb’s work!

Did you catch the trailer that dropped earlier this week? It’s amazing… pun intended.

- Remember last week when X-Men director Bryan Singer teased on Twitter that yet another sequel, Apocalypse, would be in theaters in 2016? Well, now we know he’s actually going to direct the film, moving on to that feature after putting the finishing touches on Days of Future Past.

Vulture breaks the news. No source is cited. Just the site saying that Singer will move from Days to Apocalypse, much like he went from X-Men to X2 in 2000 and 2003. This gives the X-Men franchise a ton of stability moving forward, ensuring that the franchise is going to have Singer’s strong mutant voice backing its moves for the next few years.

The early indicators say that Apocalypse will be a traditional sequel to the X-Men: First Class series. But Singer has time to figure that out. The movie is slated to have a May 2016 release date. We will keep you informed and up to date.
