Fanboy Fix: Mass Effect Movie, Hitman 2 and Captain America

'Mass Effect' Movie Nabs a Screenwriter

If today has one thing in common, it's that we're talking video game movies. Perhaps the release of Prince of Persia has inspired Hollywood to get rolling on more video game movies, because announcements of two more have come in the past couple days. First up we have an adaptation of the game Mass Effect. Legendary Pictures has optioned the game, and hired screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) to churn out a script.
Mass Effect

The game takes place in the year 2183, and follows a soldier named Commander Shepard whose starship takes him on adventures that involve an extinct race of aliens. No word on budget or scope just yet, but we imagine they're going to right after the Avatar market with a story that mixes humans and aliens. Of course the down side of that is that people will automatically compare you to Avatar, and so those effects better look good. Though it wasn't mentioned, the film will also most certainly arrive in 3D, and if you went by this poster I couldn't imagine hiring anyone other than Christian Bale or Sam Worthington for the part of the Commander.

What do you think? Any Mass Effect players out there? Do you think the game would make a good film?

'Hitman 2' Heading Our Way

From one video game adaptation to another, it looks like Hollywood thinks you want another Hitman movie. 20th Century Fox has hired Daniel Benmayor to direct a Hitman 2 movie off a script by Daniel Casey. No word on whether the original film's star, Timothy Olyphant, will return to play the elite assassin Agent 47, though one assumes they'll try to get him. Depending on how well this one comes along, I wouldn't be surprised if it went straight to DVD.

Would you be down for a Hitman sequel? I mean, really? Really, really?

Dominic Cooper to Play Iron Man's Dad in 'Captain America'

Dominic Cooper
If you've seen Iron Man 2, then you know how Tony Stark's father factors in to the beginning of The Avengers. Shortly after Iron Man 2 hit theaters, it was revealed that Stark's dad, Howard Stark (played by John Slattery in Iron Man 2) will have a role in Captain America: The First Avenger. Since Slattery is a little old to play the part again because the film is set during World War II, it looks like Dominic Cooper – who was once pegged to star in Thor – has landed the role.

During an interview with the actor in Cannes, Salon noted Slattery had revealed to them that he would be shooting a role in Captain America next as Howard Stark. If I were a guessing man, I'd say Stark has a lot to do with where Captain America got that sweet shield.
