Sometimes the toughest magic trick to pull off in Hollywood is making a "kids' movie" that's also for adults. The barrier between the two has been vanishing for quite some time now, thanks hugely to Pixar, but there are still a few properties that feel like they're only for children. Lego Ninjago is one of them. Or, rather, it used to be.
For those unfamiliar, Lego Ninjago started as a kids' show about a wise, old master ninja who trains four young people with very different personalities in an attempt to take down an evil bad guy who is assembly an army. Basically, it was set up as the Lego version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The show, and related toys, proved to be hugely popular, and led to an evolution into all kinds of different mediums, including video games and books. But now it's evolved into its highest profile form yet, The Lego Ninjago Movie.
This of course comes from a lot of the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie, which means we fully expect it to offer something special to kids and adults alike. If anything, it should be worth it just to see more Lego-fied martial arts fight scenes like the refrigerator one in this first trailer. Check it out.
The Lego Ninjago Movie hits theaters on September 22.
