Orson Scott Card’s novel Ender’s Game has been around since 1985, and it has taken Hollywood that long to compute how best to translate it to the big screen. Now that technology has caught up with Card’s vivid imagination, audiences are able to see the story of brilliant Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield) unfold, which will happen in November.
Set in the distant future, Card’s story tells of a civilization living in the aftermath of an alien attack. At the time, only the heroics of International Fleet Commander Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley) were enough to fend off the vicious alien threats of the Formics. Now, society is busy training young soldiers in search of the next Rackham … which they believe they have found in Ender.
We’ve seen an image from Gavin Hood’s Ender’s Game already, showing Butterfield (Hugo) getting schooled by military instructor Colonel Graff (played by Harrison Ford). Earlier, the fan site EnderWiggin.net posted the first official look at Ender’s colleague, Petra Arkanian (Hailee Steinfeld) as they dine in the Battle School mess hall, wearing their Salamander Army uniforms:
As the story goes, students who display intelligence and military know-how are recruited for Battle School and Command School, where they are prepared for an epic battle to preserve our planet. The site has a decent rundown of a recent set visit to the Ender’s Game production. And in addition, the movie’s Facebook page shared the logos from the different armies: Rat Army; Asp Army; Salamander Army; and Dragon Army. Check them out below.
Hood’s adaptation of Ender’s Game opens in theaters in 2D and IMAX on Nov. 1. With all of this promotional content reaching the Web, can a trailer for the anticipated movie be far behind?
