Emma Stone to Play Mary Jane in 'Spider-Man' Reboot; Philip Seymour Hoffman to Play Venom?

There's been a lot of Spider-Man talk over the weekend, and it all seems to be circling Emma Stone for now, who, contrary to earlier reports, is about to be officially offered the role of Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. We had been told previously that Watson wasn't going to be a part of this first film, but wires may have been crossed. It's not that Watson won't be a part of it; instead, she's involved, but not for the entire film. Word has it that Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) first girlfriend, Gwen Stacey, will be his main squeeze for most of the film, with Watson stepping in at a later point and then working a larger presence in as we leap to the next film.

Emma Stone

In addition to Stone – who'd be great as Mary Jane, by the way – Deadline also mentions briefly at the end that the studio is interested in bringing back the Venom character and that they'd like to have Philip Seymour Hoffman play him (it?). Definitely an odd choice for Venom (though I could totally see Hoffman playing another Spidey villain like Lizard), but with special effects you can turn anyone into anything these days, so maybe Hoffman would be good assuming they do a better job with Venom than they did in Spider-Man 3, shoving him in halfway through for no apparent reason other than to get the character some screen time.

Personally, I'd rather see a Spider-Man film featuring villains we haven't seen yet, especially since the previous franchise is still so fresh in our minds. What do you think? Is Emma Stone good for Mary Jane? And which villains would you like to see Spidey conquer next?
