Eddie Murphy Channels 'Liar, Liar' in 'A Thousand Words' Trailer

A day after stepping down from hosting the Oscars, Paramount has released the debut trailer for the long dormant Eddie Murphy comedy A Thousand Words. Murphy made the movie back in 2008, during a time when he was being scorned for films like Norbit and Meet Dave.

Paramount, hoping to capitalize on what was supposed to be a career boost for Murphy after hosting the Oscars, released this trailer that conceptually borrows heavily from Jim Carrey's 1997 comedy Liar, Liar.
In A Thousand Words, Murphy plays a fast-talking guy who bends words to get what he wants, even if he has to lie. Cliff Curtis's Dr. Sinja reveals that Murphy's life is interconnected with the number of leaves on a mystical tree leaving Murphy's character with a thousand words left to speak before he dies. Cue predictable, comedic pantomiming.
The movie inexplicably co-stars Kerry Washington and Allison Janney leaving us with either cautious optimism that this movie isn't as bad as the premise leads us to believe or that these actresses got a nice paycheck from Dreamworks to appear in this film. Here's hoping the end result is somewhere in the middle. In the meanwhile, check out the trailer below. A Thousand Words arrives in theaters March 23, 2012 (yes, that's Hunger Games Day).
